I went through a phase of adding smoke to every drink I could but I promise that this time, it’s fully warranted.
INGREDIENTS
Double espresso (approximately 40ml)
20ml dark maple syrup
250ml milk of choice (I’d suggest oat or whole)
Heavy pinch of sea salt
Fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish
BUILD
This drink can be easily made and enjoyed at any temperature. If you’re serving it iced and want a little extra smoke, lightly smoke a chilled glass with rosemary prior to adding the drink. Additionally, smoked sea salt adds a bit of extra kick if you have it on hand.
Stir together the freshly pulled espresso, maple syrup, and salt. If serving hot, steam your milk and pour like usual. If cold, combine your milk with the sweetened espresso base before pouring over ice. Lightly flame a fresh sprig of rosemary until it begins to smoke and place it atop the final drink as garnish. This can be most easily done with a kitchen torch but is also possible with a match.
When shooting this drink, I added a sprinkle of cinnamon as well. Definitely nice, but fully optional.
